Necklace Lines

Necklace Lines?

Can you tell a person’s age by looking at their neck? The neck sometimes shows what the face does not – our age. One of the many issues that individuals struggle with when it comes to the neck are horizontal neck lines, a sign of age but an issue you can do something about.

For many people, the face is the focus of the cleansers, serums, moisturizers, and cosmetic injectables, helping to keep the face youthful and glowing, but the neck can be an entirely different story.

Here’s what you need to know about combating neck lines: why you get them and how you can make them go away.

Before & After Photos

Frequently asked questions

When people talk about neck lines, they are often referring to two different types of issues. There are vertical neck creases, which can be caused by things such as weight fluctuations, sleeping position, and genetics. The muscles in the neck can also contribute to vertical neck lines.

The other type of neck lines is what we will explore here: horizontal lines in the neck – and there is a lot of information to understand what causes them, how to prevent them, and what treatments you can use to target them.

There are a variety of things that contribute to horizontal neck lines but the underlying causes are a decrease in the collagen of the skin. Collagen helps to give the skin structure, keeping it firm, plump, and smooth. The production of collagen decreases over time, but other factors can play a role as well. The biggest culprits that can impact collagen in the skin are:

Genetics

Your genes play a huge role in how your skin ages. That doesn’t mean you cannot slow the signs of aging down with a great skincare routine and treatments, but some people will simply notice skin changes more than others and at different stages of their lives.

Sun Exposure

Many people meticulously apply sunscreen to their faces to prevent premature aging from exposure to the UV rays of the sun but forget about the neck. UV rays are very damaging to the collagen in the skin. This can result in premature wrinkles, including horizontal neck lines, on the neck.

Repeated Motions

If you do one motion over and over again, then it can result in wrinkles. Laugh lines are great examples, especially if you smile a lot! But horizontal neck lines can also be caused by repetitive motions such as looking down at your smartphone screen.

Lifestyle Factors

Some lifestyle choices are terrible for the skin and can cause premature aging. The most serious is smoking. Tobacco smoke causes damage to the collagen in your skin and nicotine causes a restriction in the blood vessels. That leads to less oxygen getting to your skin and more pronounced wrinkles.

Another lifestyle factor that can impact how your skin ages is hydration. So, don’t forget to drink plenty of water each day to ensure that your skin can stay hydrated and get the nutrients it needs.

You’re never too young to take steps to prevent horizontal neck lines, and you’re never too old to take steps to reduce them. In fact, there are some very easy ways to do this, including:

Posture

The repetitive motions we listed as a contributing factor to horizontal neck lines may be caused by your posture – specifically, looking down at your smartphone or handheld device. Remember that wrinkles respond to the movements of the body. That’s why you see people who smoke for years with fine lines around the mouth.

Looking up and down at your phone often can cause the same type of issue with the creases in your neck. Over time, the creases will turn to permanent wrinkles as you make the same movement over and over.

Prevent this by holding your devices out in front of you, allowing you to look straight ahead. This will keep you from looking down and creasing the skin of your neck in the process.

Try Vitamin C

A great Vitamin C serum as a part of your skincare routine can substantially improve horizontal neck lines, too.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, which can help to reduce the damage of certain environmental factors that contribute to wrinkles, such as UV rays from the sun.

Apply Sunscreen Everyday

Another important part of your skincare routine must be to apply sunscreen each day – even when it’s cloudy outside. Doing so helps to protect that precious collagen in your skin from the damage caused by UV rays. If you’re going to be out in the sun for long periods, don’t forget to apply sunscreen every two to three hours.

If you have neck lines, you’re unhappy with, then there are some treatment options available that deliver amazing results. Studies have shown that dermal fillers with hyaluronic acid are an effective way to treat horizontal lines on the neck. Some treatments you may want to consider include:

Temporary Fillers

Temporary cosmetic fillers such as Vollure and Juvederm or RHA1 are great options to help treat horizontal neck lines. Most products are made from a naturally occurring substance in the body called hyaluronic acid to stimulate collagen and give the skin support so it doesn’t collapse into a fold with movement.

Injectable fillers offer immediate results and are reversible. They also come in ranges of longevity that are based on the thickness of the product. The fillers we use can last as little as three months to as long as two years, allowing a treatment to be tailored to your individual needs.

Vollure

Volume is a great treatment for horizontal neck lines as well. It is a lightweight combination of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine that helps to reduce the discomfort that can accompany filler injection procedures. The specialized Vycross technology offered by Vollure helps increase the longevity of the treatment to produce long-lasting results and integrates into the tissue of the neck.

The increased elasticity of Vollure allows for better movement at the injection site, producing smooth, natural results that can last up to 18 months.

Juvederm

Juvederm Ultra Plus XC a hyaluronic acid product that is used to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles. The XC stands for “extra comfort” because the gel is mixed with a numbing solution for your comfort during injection. It has been formulated with hylacross technology that creates a gel with a very smooth consistency, making it easier to target an area of treatment. Results usually last for 9 to 12 months.

Belotero

One of the thinnest hyaluronic acid fillers you can find on the market today, Belotero can be placed superficially to create a big impact on wrinkles and lines in the neck. It usually lasts around three to six months

Teosyal RHA 1

Teosyal RHA 1 is a filler treatment specialized and targeted to treat surface lines and fine lines. Typically, this product is recommended for wrinkles in the perioral zone, forehead, on the neck, and around the eyes.

Resilient hyaluronic acid (RHA) fillers differ from traditional fillers, as they are able to recoil and spring back to their original shape after being altered, stretched, bent, or compressed. Resilience is an important quality for fillers placed in dynamic areas of the face, including the cheeks, around the eyes, and around the mouth. The resilience in RHA dynamic fillers not only provides a more natural result as you move your face, the hyaluronic acid also takes longer to metabolize. Because the RHA products move with your face and more closely resemble the hyaluronic acid that naturally exists in your body, it will take longer for this product to break down, producing results that last longer than traditional fillers. RHA 1 Fillers

Another issue many experience as they get older is vertical neck bands. These are the long, noticeable lines that can extend from the base of the neck to the chin. If you hold your neck out and aggressively say “Cheese!” then the neck bands can pop out. These bands can result in an aged and uneven appearance. Luckily, there are great treatment options available.

Botox is a great way to address vertical neck bands, relaxing the dynamic muscles that are the root cause. This results in muscles that are less prominent and smoother looking. Results can last up to six months and can be repeated to achieve the results you desire.

Methods we use to treat

The active ingredient in the Filler family of products is hyaluronic acid. The flexibility, texture, and resilience of youthful skin exist because of the high amount of water it contains. Also known as hyaluronan, hyaluronic acid is a sticky substance that our body naturally produces. The skin, eyes, and connective tissue are the sites where maximum amounts of hyaluronic acid are found. Its capacity to retain water up to almost a thousand times its weight is the key reason why it is used in cosmetic fillers. Apart from hydration, hyaluronic acid is also linked to tissue repair, rejuvenation, and has anti-inflammatory action. Hyaluronic acid also facilitates new cell growth and promotes tightness and volume of the skin.
As we age and our skin matures, fine lines, wrinkles, uneven textures and tone bring about dull, discoloured looking skin that lacks vibrancy. However, advancements in dermal filler products and micro-needling applicators are making preventing premature aging and addressing the signs that already exist an affordable, quick and easy process. At LSG we take microneedling to a whole new level with our innovative Beauty Booster treatment. Our Beauty Booster procedure is designed to improve hydration, revitalize the skin, reduce laxity and provide the patient with skin that has a radiant glow. We accomplish this using the revolutionary Vital Injector 2 (V2) device. The Beauty Booster treatment provides patients with two treatments in one: A Microneedling procedure in conjunction with a Dermal Filler treatment. During this procedure, our Cosmetic Specialists use the V2 injector device to perform multiple micro injections across the areas that are being treated at the same time.
PRF refers to platelet-rich fibrin that is also known as leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF). PRF is an improved version of platelet-rich plasma or PRP therapy which is used widely to rejuvenate skin. Platelets are one of the components present in our blood along with red and white blood cells. The main function of platelets is to form fibrin that helps the blood clot during an injury, thereby preventing excessive bleeding. Platelets’ healing properties have been known to humans for centuries while medical researchers in recent times have found that these components speed up wound healing and recovery after certain surgeries. PRF is also extensively used to help promote wound healing, bone regeneration, and to control bleeding.
During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin, the cornerstones of healthy, firm, smooth skin. eDermastamp also creates superficial micro-channels which allow topical serums to be absorbed more effectively into the skin. The benefits of microneedling are a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. eDermastamp also has a positive effect on hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars, and stretch marks and generally creates a fresher appearance or glow to the skin.
