Forever Young BBL

Forever Young BBL

The benefits of BBL expand to include maintaining healthy skin once it has been corrected and delaying the signs of ageing.

Think of the Forever Young BBL as a maintenance treatment to delay the signs of ageing, whereas BBL Skin Rejuvenation is when the BBL is being used to target a specific concern.

Forever Young BBL is the first and only treatment designed to delay the appearance of visible skin ageing in all patients, including those with darker skin types. In addition to clinical improvement in the appearance of photodamaged skin, there is evidence supporting that long term regular BBL treatments will enhance the expression of youth related genes in aged skin cells, essentially reversing the ageing process and returning skin to a genetically youthful state.

Preventing and reversing the signs of fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, age spots, uneven pigmentation and textural changes are newly discovered benefits of regular BBL treatments. The common effects of photoageing in patients with darker skin types are not as obvious, although these patients do still experience the inevitable process of ageing.

A recent study showed that regular treatments of BBL of 2 to 4 times per year seemed to delay visible signs of ageing. This study included 15 patients of 38-69 years of age, who had at least 1 treatment per year for 5-11 years. The before and after pictures of the patients over this period of time showed that their skin condition was virtually unchanged.

The results of this study was further investigated at a genetic level. The gene expression of “Forever Young” treated aged skin, and untreated aged skin were compared to a young skin. Of the 2265 genes whose expression was altered in aged skin, 1293 were fully restored to the expression seen in the younger skin.

This groundbreaking study provided additional support behind the age defying benefits of BBL.

Optimal results for maintaining healthy skin and delaying ageing require 4 x Forever Young treatments per year. Treatments are generally well tolerated with no expected downtime and minimal risk of an adverse event.

Frequently Asked Questions

Broadband Light (BBL) uses trusted dual-lamp technology, creating new standards for skin treatments related to aging and sun damage. BBL is a non-surgical, affordable, safe treatment with little downtime, discomfort and proven results. Our clinic has been offering BBL treatments for over 15 years. It is one of our most popular, affordable treatments and it works. Each treatment is unique to match the personal goals and skin condition of each patient. BBL is used to accurately treat aging, sunspots, facial veins, wrinkles and skin imperfections. Scientific evidence established that regular treatments of BBL would revitalize the appearance of skin and continue to reduce the signs of aging. BBL pulses light over selected areas rejuvenating and softening the appearance of skin.

  1. After choosing the most suitable wavelength or filter for your skin type, the broadband light gently heats the top layers of your skin.
  2. Naturally absorbing the heat, skin cells will be revived and begin to produce new collagen.
  3. BBL treatment blends the skins natural colours, eliminating any redness, vessels or pigment distortions.
  4. BBL is used most commonly to treat areas with a higher exposure to sun; however, Broadband Light can treat any area of the body.

For desired results, it is recommended to receive three to five treatments from four to eight week intervals. Studies have shown that having three treatments per year actually slows down the aging process of skin.

Depending on the treated areas, BBL procedures can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.

Broadband Light is a non-invasive procedure with virtually no downtime and little discomfort. Topical anesthetic is not required and most patients find the treatments tolerable. In most cases, you are able to return to work, apply makeup and resume normal activities the following day. Some patients experience minor swelling and redness after the treatment, but this usually subsides in a couple of hours. For pigmented lesions you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking. This process generally takes 5 to 7 days. Avoid any exposure to sun until skin is fully recovered and always wear a high SPF sunscreen when outdoors. For ultimate results, we will recommend some after-care skin care products customized to your skin type.

Any area can be treated. These may include the face, neck, chest, back, hands, arms, legs and feet.

Pathology:  under the microscope, the changes associated with sun damage are reversed and collagen and elastin replace the damaged dermis.  Large dilated blood vessels become normal size.

Blinded study: Dermatologists guessed the ages of patients based on photos without knowing whether any treatment had been performed.  The dermatologists were accurate on the before treatment pictures.  In the after-treatment pictures (treatment over 8 years), the dermatologist rated the patients to be 9 years younger than their actual age.  Visually, the treated patients looked younger. See study below.

Scientific data:  Different proteins are active in young skin vs older skin.  Genetic mRNA evidence shows a reversal to a more youthful protein profile after a series of treatment with the Forever Young BBL technique.  See study below.

Rejuvenation of Gene Expression Pattern of Aged Human Skin by Broadband Light Treatment: A Pilot Study

First study to demonstrate Forever Young BBL treatments can restore gene expression pattern of aged human skin to resemble young skin.

Results:

Over 1,000 genes became “rejuvenated” to be more like youthful skin resulting in decreased elastosis and more uniform collagen deposition; leading to improvements in fine wrinkles and pigmentation.

Long Term Evaluation of the Anti-Aging Effects of BroadBand Light Therapy

The first long-term, visual and clinical evaluation of Forever Young BBL treatments.

Blinded panel of physician evaluators determined Forever Young BBL treated patients appeared 9 years younger than their actual age.

Results:

“Patients who maintain a regular regimen of Forever Young BBL treatments annually can reduce and delay the long term signs of skin aging in a way that looks very natural.”
