Fraxel Skin Resurfacing™

What is Fraxel Skin Resurfacing™

Fraxel treatment is a safe, non-invasive procedure that allows you to rediscover the fresh, healthy skin of your youth.

Our Fraxel laser stimulates the body’s own natural healing process replacing damaged skin with fresh, glowing, healthy skin, removing years from your appearance. Since your skin is unique, our staff can develop a Fraxel treatment plan tailored to your skin’s individual needs.

Fraxel Benefits:

  • Smoother, fresher looking skin
  • Improved tone, texture and pore size
  • Smooth wrinkles around the eye
  • Improved appearance of acne scars, surgical scars and stretch marks
  • Reduce unwanted brown spots
  • Rejuvenate your neck, chest and hand

Fraxel® laser treatment produces tiny, microscopic sites of thermal impact separated by areas of unaffected, healthy tissue. Each treated spot, called a MicroThermal Zone, stimulates the body’s own natural production of new collagen in the dermis and eliminates old epidermal pigmented cells on the skin’s surface. The spared healthy tissue contains viable cells that promote rapid healing of the outer skin layers. Since only 20% of the skin is treated by the Fraxel® laser on each visit, there is speedy healing and minimal downtime. Fraxel® laser smoothes fine lines and wrinkles on the face, including around the eyes. It reduces sun damage, improves texture and tone of the skin, and fades brown spots, sun spots and pigmentation on the face, neck, chest, back, forearms and hands. Fraxel® laser treatment results in fresh, healthy skin and a renewed sense of confidence. All skin types benefit from treatment.

What Fraxel Laser treats:

As you age, your skin thins, droops and loses its elasticity, which can lead to wrinkles. Wrinkles on the face and neck can also result from years of smiling, laughing and squinting – all of which involves the contraction of muscles. The skin around your eyes is especially prone to wrinkles because it’s more delicate than other areas of the body and tends to age much more rapidly.

Age spots, also known as sunspots or photodamage, are flat, uneven, dark patches on areas of the body regularly exposed to the sun – such as the face, neck, chest, hands and arms. These spots form when your skin, in an effort to protect your body from ultraviolet rays, produces too much melanin.

As you age, skin loses its smoothness, particularly in areas on the face and chest that are more commonly exposed to regular sunlight.

Melasma appears as irregular patches of brown skin on the forehead, cheeks, upper lip and nose. Sometimes called the “mask of pregnancy,” melasma can affect anyone, but it’s most common among women — especially during hormonal fluctuations associated with pregnancy, oral contraceptive use or hormone replacement therapy. Melasma patches can be darkened by exposure to the sun.

The Fraxel laser can smooth acne scarring by stimulating collagen to fill in the depressions in skin caused by acne, resulting in greatly improved texture and smoother appearance to your skin.

Stretch marks can occur in the dermis, the elastic middle layer of skin, that allows it to retain its shape and are a result of a breakdown in collagen and elastin in the skin. The Fraxel laser induces collagen growth and resurfaces the skin gradually, resulting in an improvement in the quality and texture of stretchmarks. This is the first treatment for stretch marks that actually works!

There is simply nothing else like it for improving the appearance of your skin and giving you a renewed sense of confidence.

Compared to the traditional resurfacing lasers, Fraxel® laser treatments have minimaldowntime. Fraxel® side effects include redness and mild puffiness for a few days. After three days, the skin appears bronzed and mild peeling occurs. Patients can apply make-up immediately and men can shave since the surface layer of skin is not removed. Three to five treatments are usually necessary, about one month apart. Fraxel® treatments can be don safely in types I-IV skin. Fraxel treatments have been featured on The Today Show, The View, and in In Style Magazine, Marie Claire, Self Magazine, and O, the Oprah Magazine.

Uncover the skin of your youth!

What makes your skin look older?

Over the years, your skin is exposed to sun, air pollution, stress, fatigue and lifestyle factors such as smoking, which can affect your skin’s texture, color and tightness. Your skin contains two proteins, collagen and elastin, which keep your skin youthful and tight. But as you age and get more sun exposure those proteins break down faster than your body can rebuild them. As a result, your skin may start to sag and show damage like wrinkles, deep frown lines or sun spots.

During the online segment of ABC’s Good Morning America Health, Dr. Cameron Rokhsar features Fraxel as an excellent treatment allowing patients to look younger in as quickly as 15 minutes, as well as reverse sun damage, scaring, melasma and diminish wrinkles. Watch as he explains how Fraxel, unlike other laser systems, resurfaces skin effectively, reducing average recovery time to only two to three days!

What does Fraxel re:store do?

  • Fraxel re:store® laser uses patented technology to target aging and sun damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into the skin.
  • The laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time leaving the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes rapid healing.
  • This stimulates your body’s own natural healin process, replacing the old and damaged cells with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.

Frequently asked questions

Fraxel treatment improves skin texture and tone by reducing unwanted wrinkles, acne scar texture, sunspots, and discoloration, including melasma (the mask of pregnancy). This type of laser skin resurfacing treatment is commonly performed on the face, neck, chest, and hands—but the treatment is safe anywhere on the body.

This aggressive yet remarkably safe procedure will allow you to have smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin and a new, visible tone and texture, without unwanted brown spots that help illuminate your inner beauty.

  • Most patients describe an increased sensation of heat during the treatment.
  • To minimize discomfort, topical anesthesia is applied before the procedure and cold air is used on the treatment area during the procedure.
  • After the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn, which usually diminishes in 1 to 3 hours.

As with any laser treatment, there are some potential side effects. The most common effects are swelling and redness, which are typically minimal and subside quickly. Other side effects may include:

  • Minor itching, dry skin, peeling or flaking
  • Bronzed skin appearance
  • Risk of infection or scarring

The intensity and duration of side effects depend on the aggressiveness of treatment and on your particular healing characteristics. Please see the Commitment to Safety at the end of this book for a list of all potential side effects.

  • During the first 24 hours after treatment, your skin may feel as though it is sunburned and will appear pink or red. You may wear make-up to reduce this sunburned appearance.
  • Your skin will naturally bronze over in the next week or two. As you continue treatment, the sunburned to- bronzed appearance will repeat after each treatment.
  • As with a sunburn, your skin will flake and exfoliate normally. Use a moisturizer to reduce the appearance of dry flakes as instructed.
  • There is no special care after treatment. Generally, most patients return to their normal routine within 2-3 days.
  • You will be able to put on your mineral make-up and continue your skincare regimen.
  • We recommend wearing sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher and avoiding direct sun exposure for at least 3 months after your last treatment. A full detailed list of after care instructions will be given to you after your procedure.

Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regimen is 3 to 5 sessions spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart.

  • Depending on your condition and schedule, we may choose to space treatment sessions further apart.
  • This time frame and treatment structure allow for complete healing and the production of new collagen and elastin to replace damaged tissue
